Ustaad Azhar Ali, a skilled craftsman of Shahjahanabad, dreams of creating a mirror so exquisite that it could be presented before the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar during Shaan-e-Hindustan, the city’s grand annual festival.
But history has its own plans. The same mirror, which now lies forgotten in a dusty antique shop of modern Delhi, recalls the turbulent year of 1857 — when rebellion, loss, and hope forever altered the face of Hindustan.
Through its reflection, we witness both the grandeur of the empire and the chaos of its decline.
